September is full of excellent UFC Events. It is being kicked off with a PPV fight between UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov and interim titlist Dustin Poierier and ending with middleweights Hermansson vs Cannonier, who will attempt to make their case for a shot at a world championship. A classic showdown is expected in Abu Dhabi on September 7, as UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov makes the second defense of his crown against interim 155-pound titlist Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 242. Fresh from a submission win over Conor McGregor in the biggest fight of 2018 last October, the unbeaten Nurmagomedov is eager to put his 27-0 record on the line against the veteran Poirier, whose recent winning streak has been highlighted by victories over Max Holloway, Eddie Alvarez, Justin Gaethje and Anthony Pettis. This September, “The Diamond” and “The Eagle” face off for the undisputed lightweight title.

The heat from the Summer of 2019 will continue into September, as two of the most exciting fighters of this era square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night on September 14 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. In a five-round lightweight bout, Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone looks to add to his record of most wins in UFC history as he takes on human highlight reel Justin Gaethje. Winner of two straight over James Vick and Edson Barboza, Gaethje has earned six post-fight bonus awards in five UFC appearances, and this September he will match wits and fists with someone in Cerrone who is chasing his fourth consecutive Fight of the Night bonus in Vancouver. 

UFC Fight Night: Rodriguez vs. Stephens – Saturday, September 21 live from Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City, Mexico. Watch on ESPN+

Featherweight star Yair Rodriguez will return to fight in his home country of Mexico on September 21, as he meets fellow 145-pound contender Jeremy Stephens in the five-round main event of UFC Fight Night at Arena Ciudad de México in Mexico City. Winner of The Ultimate Fighter Latin America in 2014, Rodriguez won his first two UFC bouts at home before taking his show on the road, where he has defeated the likes of Dan Hooker and BJ Penn. Now, after a Fight of the Year knockout of Chan Sung Jung, he’s back in Mexico to battle Stephens, a perennial contender with knockout power whose last three wins have seen him defeat Gilbert Melendez, Dooho Choi and Josh Emmett.

UFC Fight Night: Hermansson vs Cannonier – Saturday, September 28 live from Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. Watch on ESPN+

Surging middleweights will attempt to make their case for a shot at a world championship on September 28 as the UFC makes its first visit to Copenhagen, Denmark. In the five-round main event, European standout Jack Hermansson will put his four-fight winning streak on the line against Jared Cannonier, whose move to the middleweight division has resulted in stoppages of David Branch and Anderson Silva. Plus, Iceland’s Gunnar Nelson battles veteran contender Thiago Alves in a compelling welterweight co-main event.
